Context

I came up with my idea quite quickly it was just finding what craft I wanted to explain that took the longest in the end I just picked a mission I new a bit about but not much I don think this was the correct choice if I were to do this again I would probably write a list of pros and cons for 3 random ones then just pick the one that has the least explanations written about it with the most interesting mission. My inspiration for a good chunk of this project is because of a new space race that is starting to get close to a moon landing test with Nasa, sls (mission code).

My understanding for the type of game devilment I want to get into has changed thanks to this project before the start of this project I were into and did lots of character sculpting this project has gotten me back into hard surface modelling and making infographics with this I am starting to work on a sailboat one in my own time that will be used for my portfolio as well I have started thinking about using infographic over normal gameplay I don’t know what I will do with this idea. This project has given me new way to look at video game and the art around it and has let me see that there is more to it then just making props and characters.

RESEARCH

How

I just started reding the Wikipedia to decide what I wanted to research then I clicked on the sources below and opened the ESA and NASA websites to get information from there two and just started reding what all the main sources for information on space craft are. For the more detailed stuff like the nuclear reactor, I went to the manufactures website I found this website from reding about how the r4eactors used were the same as galliaos sisterships and an updated version of the ones used on voyager. This was how I did most of my research find out about the craft and what parts it sheard with other crafts then find that craft page and see what was missing on the part on the other page.

Was I do believe my research into the craft was sustained was verry thoroa I do believe I needed to do more recherché in to 3ds max techequse one area I could of done more in is atmosphere rendering and planet surface and lighting rendering to give the planets and Jupiter a working system I would probably use a path constraint for the moons then lower the iqr of the surface of Jupiter so that shadow would not be visserbull.

My primary resher that were a few surveys changed the way that I were presenting the final project and what I were explanting by getting me to focus on the general features of the mission. Secondary research was all the articles I read about the craft and the event that made the mission such a mess with things braking due to Nasa having to delay all missions for a couple of years.

Did research allowed me to use new moddlin techniques and texturing I learned how to make plain textures have depth to them using iqr and subsurface scattering the information around how the craft worked aloud me to give the body realistic proportions.

Planning and production

How

I broke the project up into weeks and had tasks I needed to do each week this worked quite well when I had tasks to do on the blog or assets to make but fell apart when I were in after affects and I had to spend a good chunk of time learning about video editing.

The tool o found most useful for time planning is the time keeping chart I mad in the first few weeks this is because it made me stick to a schedule and stopped me from starting to make assets until I had done a good chunk of the research this made it all happen quite well due to knowing how what and why things did before modling them.

My planning could have been a bit more detailed towards the end of the project such as when I started doing random tasks each day for the second to last week.

Problem solving

I deal with problem by chipping at them slowly and seeing if that works then improving what I tried if that does not work trying a different way I have found if you only try to solve one part of the problem at a time you will be a lot better off and example of this is when the rendering was taking to long and crashing so at first I put it in scan line then ran it it still crashed so I know its not the renderer I then change were the fille is being saved if that doesn’t work I will change the fille type from a png to a gif or vice vera test if that worked change the rendering back too Arnold then go about fixing the textures or what other problem there is,

The main skill that problem solving has given me is patience because if you spend long enough at a single problem you will be able to solve it if you take it bit by bit.

Practical skills

A lot of the practical skills I learn were small thing to speed up my workflow such as using shift to extrude then w to move and scale it how I want then extruding again you can make block outs quickly that way I also learned how to animate text in aftereffects using adobe bridge. My most valued development is not a technique its just a mind set to modelling which is just focus on one part at a time do not worry about the detail just make a semi low Polly of each part then increase the detail on the parts that matter.

Presentation

My work is going on YouTube and attestation the image I were going for is a factual video that is educational. My feedback is to do with lighting and just a few small improvements to the way the animation flows and lighting. One of the biggest bits of feedback is to add a second text box in the probe hitting Jupiter scene.

The Final product

The strengths of the final project are that it visualises the look of the craft that there are not many photos of, so it gives you a more in-depth look of how Nasa was making space craft in the shuttle era. The areas for improvement are how much information I explain in the animation I do feel like a good chunk of the technical stuff had to be left out because of the time constraints involved with animation.

I hade to change the amount text on screen this made the experience more enjoyable but did leave out a lot of the technical information.

I do believe my project is suitable for use on by art station profile.

I am fine with the audience response the product does need a small amount of tweaking especially with a small spelling mistake for Galileo that I sixed in the last few minutes.

Over all I do believe the project was a success and it didi stay close to the original pitch if I were to do it again I would improve the planning towards the end and do more extensive story boarding.
